19th Century Panel Frame reproduction in 12K gold with black polish
This frame came about in a discussion with our client. The painting is from the late 18th Century but given its humble subject matter, my clients were hesitant to apply a gilded frame around it. We decided to re-work our black polished panel frame with a small interior liner gilded in 12k gold over black clay. We then set about applying a rather heavy patina to the gilding and to the outer black portion of the frame. The result is an honest, sturdy, humble frame with little sparkle leading into the image.
